Coroner's Office Launches Public Data Dashboards
On Friday, January 19, 2024, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek announced the release of two data dashboards that will track trends of overdoses and suicides throughout Lake County. These dashboards have been in the development process for the last six months in conjunction with Lake County Geographic Information System (GIS).
Both dashboards incorporate data from 2020 and will be updated on a weekly basis as investigatory information is available. Data on both dashboards can be queried by year and city/town and additionally include a visual mapping feature. “We feel it is important that our residents have data that is accurate, readily available, and in as close to real-time as possible as it relates to death trends throughout our county. This electronic presentation will help better illustrate where in the county we need to concentrate our efforts regarding preventable deaths,” Coroner Banek said. Parameters have been set within the visual mapping that do not allow users to zoom into specific addresses.
The overdose and suicide dashboards are the first two to be released. Plans are in place to release a third dashboard focusing on homicide data in coming weeks.
