Standards and Details
The Lake County Public Works Department (LCPW) maintains 390 miles of sanitary sewer main, 250 miles of water main, three wastewater treatment plants, 12 water systems, and other associated infrastructure. We all work together to ensure that system is well-maintained and operating costs are as low as possible. It is important we all meet consistent standards of material quality and construction procedures.
The standards below apply to all public and private infrastructure:
Service Pipe Construction Standards
Form | Description |
---|---|
Connection Standards | Permit card conditions for connecting service pipes to mains (new construction, service line replacement). List of acceptable materials and construction procedures. |
Disconnection Standards | Permit card conditions for disconnecting service pipes from mains (demolition permits, service line replacement). List of acceptable materials and construction procedures. |
Service Pipe Repair Standards | Permit card conditions for repair of service pipes. List of acceptable materials and construction procedures. |
Other Standards
Form | Description |
---|---|
Standard Easement Language | Template language for recorded plats and easements where LCPW infrastruction is located on private property. Contact us at 847-377-7500 to discuss your project. |
Standard Record Drawing Requirements | Standard language for design plan sets requiring record documentation. Contact us at 847-377-7500 to discuss your project. |
Grease Basins Approved for Use | The LCPWD has approved a number of grease basins that satisfy the Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) removal regulations of the Lake County Code. |
Lake County Public Works Details
All plan sets must include all relevant, official Lake County Public Works Department (LCPWD) details. All plan set specifications shall meet these standards. Contact us at 847-377-7500 to discuss your project.

Sanitary Manhole | Standard design of sanitary manholes that will be owned and maintained by the LCPWD. |
Water Service | Standard installation detail for new and repaired water services. |
Trench Backfill | Proper protection to prevent pipe settling and damage. |
Pressure Connection Vault | All new pressure connections to existing watermain pipe shall occur in an installed vault. |
Valve Vault | Standard vault to allow for access and maintenance. |
Precast Drop Manhole | Drop manholes are required when there is a significant difference in pipe invert elevations. This detail is for new manholes. |
Exterior Field Built Drop Connection | Drop manholes are required when there is a significant difference in pipe invert elevations. This detail demonstrates a modification to a standard manhole. |
Grease Trap : Standard Detail 1,000 Gallons | Standard performance standards for grease trap construction. The LCPWD has a list of pre-approved grease basins that satisfy the Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) removal regulations of the Lake County Code. |
Fire Hydrant | Specifications for all new fire hydrants. |
Sanitary Service and Riser | Standard installation detail for new and repaired sanitary sewer services. |
Valve Box | Standard valve box installation. |
Air Release Valve Vault | Air release valves release pressure at high points in the water main. Valve vaults allow access to the facility. |
Thrust Restraint for HDPE Pipe | Standard installation of thrust blocks for high-density polyethylene pipe. |
Typical Duplex Lift Station | Typical design of a duplex lift station. |
Domestic Water Service Shut Off | Domestic water and fire suppression system services must diverge within the building wall to minimize dead end water pipe segments. In this situation, the building’s B-Box will be installed against the building wall. The architectural drawings must reflect this detail. |
Existing Sanitary Manhole Inside Drop Connection | Sanitary sewer service pipes may sometimes be connected at existing manholes. This detail demonstrates such a connection. |
Casing Pipe Detail | Casing pipes are used to protect water and sewer main pipes in appropriate circumstances. |
