Door to Door Solicitation

We’ve received a lot of questions about door-to-door solicitation lately, and we’d like to share the rules with you. Below are the rules for the unincorporated areas of Lake County. If you live in a municipality, check with your municipality for their solicitation ordinance.

WHO’S A SOLICITOR?

  • Those engaged in the act of obtaining orders for the purchase of goods, wares, merchandise, foodstuffs, real or personal property or services for any consideration
  • Those seeking to obtain customers for application or purchase of insurance of any type, kind, or character
  • Those seeking to obtain subscriptions to books, magazines, periodicals, newspapers or any other type of solicitation

WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR THOSE WHO SOLICIT IN UNINCORPORATED LAKE COUNTY?

  • Solicitors MUST register with the Lake County Clerk, at no charge to the Solicitor
  • Solicitors are required to carry upon his or her person the certificate of registration (or legible photocopy) and it shall be exhibited when requested by Owner, Occupant or Lake County Sheriff’s deputy
  • Solicitors can only solicit between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM
  • Solicitors must be observant of NO SOLICITORS or NO SOLICITING signage and immediately depart the property
  • Solicitors must immediately depart the property if requested by Owner or Occupant

WHO IS NOT A SOLICITOR?

  • Minors under the age of 18 who solicit for fundraising activities; e.g. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, students selling high school-sponsored items
  • Politicians, candidates and religious groups
