Description: This project will improve safety and operations at the at-grade railroad crossing and intersection. The project also includes improved and additional channelization at the intersection.
Background: This is a joint project with the Village of Barrington, as they funded and led the Phase 1 completed in 2013. The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is funding and leading Phases 2 and 3 of the project. The proposed improvements along Hart Road include adding turn lanes along both legs of the intersection, constructing a median, sidewalk, and 8’ multi-use path. No new through lanes will be constructed, but the south approach will include a right turn lane and dual left turn lanes, and the north approach will include a left and right turn lane. Improvements to US Route 14 include a right turn lane on both legs. Proposed pedestrian enhancements include sidewalks, a multi-use path on Hart Road and US Route 14, and traffic signal enhancements to safely cross the roads and railroad tracks.
8/10/2020 - Closure/detour for the south leg of Hart Rd is expected to be completed with the August 17th turn on of new traffic signals and opening of new lanes. Unfortunately the north leg of Hart Rd had some unforeseen utility conflicts and will require the one way traffic for southbound only to continue beyond the original anticipated date of August 17th, but this will reopen as soon as possible. Work continues under traffic to finish roadway and new bikepath work on US14 as well as final layer of asphalt surface over the whole project before winter.
