COMPLETE: North Shore Bike Path - At Union Pacific Railroad in Lake Bluff
Limits: At Union Pacific Railroad, east of US Hwy 41, in the Village of Lake Bluff.
Description: The asphalt bike path running parallel along the south side of IL Rte 176 currently curves toward IL 176 at the UP railroad crossing. Work will remove the curved section of bike path and replace with a straight section. A closure with a posted detour of IL Rte 176 will be necessary so that the railroad can replace existing panels and widen for the bike path.

- 8/1/2016 - The asphalt paving is complete, the final step will be seal coating the new surface.
- 7/13/2016 - The Union Pacific Railroad will be closing the railroad crossing on Illinois Route 176 east of US Route 41. The closure is necessary to replace and widen the existing railroad crossing. During this time, the Lake County Division of Transportation will reconfigure the North Shore Bike Path at the railroad crossing by creating a separate railroad crossing of the bike path. The work will begin Monday, July 25 at 6 a.m. and is scheduled to reopen to traffic in the early evening of Saturday, July 30. See the news release for more information and a map of the detour.
- 4/1/2016 - The Union Pacific Railroad will need to post a detour for the 5-day closure of IL 176 between the dates of July 25 & August 14. The closure is necessary for the railroad to replace and widen the entire crossing panel. LCDOT will put out a news release once exact dates have been approved by IDOT. During or immediately following this closure, LCDOT maintenance crews will complete the path realignment.
