21st St - From IL 131 to Kenosha Rd
Limits: Starting just east of IL 131 to the east side of the Kenosha Rd in the City of Zion and Village of Beach Park.
Description: The project consists of asphalt resurfacing and the installation of bike friendly shoulders. There will also be access improvements east of Sunnyside Dr including road widening for turn lanes, new curb and storm sewer improvements.
7/31/17 - Final surface and pavement markings are complete. Minor landscaping items remain, but the road work is complete for this project.

6/27/17 - Final surface and driveways have been paved. Final striping will begin after the 4th of July holiday. The contractor will work to complete a few remaining items including landscaping and the final layer of aggregate shoulder.
6/5/17 - Crews completed excavating and paved the first layer of pavement on the north side of 21st. They also poured the new curb and made curb repairs at Sunnyside Dr. Work continues now on excavation and prep for paving on the south side of the street. Once this is complete, they will pave the entire roadway, new and existing, from Kenosha Road to Greenbay Road.
5/9/17 - Crews are in the process of grading and excavating the new ditches on 21st Street. The contractor plans to begin excavating for the new entrance on the north side of 21st St this week. Once completed, they will excavate for the road on the south side and place stone/pavement. Storm sewer work is nearly complete.
5/1/17 - Work is well underway on the 21st St resurfacing and widening. All of the new storm sewer has been installed. Crews are currently finishing up the last of the fire hydrants relocations and adjustments. Last week crews removed the existing pavement, patched it and paved the first layer. Final paving will not occur until after both sides have been widened. The contractor plans to begin widening the north side of the road this week.
10/28/16 - The Lake County Division of Transportation is resurfacing 21st Street and adding bike friendly shoulders between IL 131 and Kenosha Road. Due to a utility conflict, construction has been delayed until spring 2017.
9/26/16 - The Lake County Division of Transportation is resurfacing 21st Street and adding bike friendly shoulders between IL 131 and Kenosha Road. The contractor is currently unable to begin their widening work as there is a utility conflict. Once the utility relocation work by AT&T is complete, it will be determined if it is too late in the year to begin construction which may delay until spring 2017.
7/22/16 - The project has been delayed due to a utility relocation and is expected to begin by September. The anticipated completion date will be pushed into November.
