Project Limits:  Aptakisic Road between Illinois Route 83 and Buffalo Grove Road in the villages of Long Grove and Buffalo Grove.

Project Background: The Aptakisic Road study area is comprised of approximately 1.2 miles from Illinois Route 83 on the west to Buffalo Grove Road on the east and contains a mixture of residential, commercial and institutional land uses. The existing roadway varies from a two-lane rural section to multi-lane urban sections near the Illinois Route 83 and Buffalo Grove Road intersections. LCDOT has identified that current traffic volumes in this corridor are near the capacity of the existing roadway, and that additional development and lack of alternate routes will add to capacity demands. The Aptakisic Road Widening Project was categorically excluded from further National Environmental Policy Act Processing and the design as presented in the Project Development Report was approved by IDOT Central office Bureau of Local Roads and Streets on August 22, 2016, concluding the Phase I Study process.

The Preferred Alternative being carried forward in Phase II for Aptakisic Road is a 5-lane roadway cross section, which includes:
• Two 11’ travel lanes in each direction
• Added median and exclusive left turn lanes
• Right turns occur from the outside travel lane
• 5’ sidewalk on the south side of Aptakisic Road within the project limits
• 8’ multi-use path on the north side of Aptakisic Road within the project limits
• The existing “open” ditch drainage system will be replaced and upgraded with curb and gutter through the project limits. This means that storm water runoff will be collected and carried through pipes to a suitable outlet off the roadway.
