Limits: From IL131 (Green Bay Rd) to Jackson St in North Chicago and Waukegan
Description: Reconstruction using a ’road diet’ concept, where four lanes will be reduced to 3, providing one lane in each direction and a center turn lane. This concept makes room available to build non-motorized facilities such as a sidewalk on the south side and a bikepath on the north side.
Current Information
3/3/21 - Majority of watermain work has been completed and the roadwork is now back in progress ready to start in March, mainly between Lewis & Jackson on the south side of 14th St. Behind-the-curb work will also be occurring project-wide to build sidewalk, bike path, driveways and landscaping. Completion is now estimated for fall 2021.

8/10/2020 - Watermain work was added for both the cities of North Chicago and Waukegan under the proposed pavement that was not previously anticipated to be necessary. That work has been approved as an addition to the project so the Waukegan work should be completed in August with the North Chicago watermain work to follow. Finally the original project can now resume starting from Dugdale to the east, building the new pavement over this improved watermain infrastructure beginning in August. Project completion is now estimated for 2021.
1/21/2020 - During the 2019 construction season, the 4-way stop intersection at 14th St and Dugdale Rd was converted to a roundabout during a 90-day closure with detour. Awaiting decisions regarding City watermains to continue with 2020 construction.
4/29/16 - A second project information meeting was held April 28, 2015 at the Greenbelt Cultural Center to offer opportunities to review project plans, schedules and exhibits. Click the "Documents" tab to view materials from the public meetings.
