Public Works Alerts Through CodeRED
The Lake County Public Works Department uses CodeRED to notify its customers by telephone, text message and email about upcoming project work, boil water orders, water main breaks, and other potential service disruptions.
Please note that to sign up, you must be a water and/or sanitary sewer customer of the Lake County Department of Public Works. Those who are not a Lake County Public Works customer should contact their water or sewer provider on the best way to get information from them.
How do I make sure I am notified of alerts?
Initially, the Public Works Department used telephone and email records that customers have provided. However, customers should not assume they are in the system. Customers should register online, particularly if they have moved or changed their phone number recently.
Customers will receive alerts from Public Works' main number 847-377-7500.
If a customer misses a call:
- Call CodeRED at 866-419-5000 or 855-969-4636 to listen to the pre-recorded message
- Call Public Works at 847-377-7500 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for more information
- Go to lakecountyil.gov/CodeRED to see recent alerts and stay informed
How do I sign up?
There is no cost to participate. Customers will need to add their first and last name, physical street address (no P.O. Boxes), city, state, zip code, primary phone number and alternate phone numbers. When signing up, customers may need to move the marker on the map to the correct location. Register for CodeRed.
How do phone calls from CodeRed work?
CodeRED delivers the message through a high-speed telephone calling system to a phone number registered in the system. Lake County Public Works selects a “call area” and the phone numbers are matched up electronically to addresses. A pre-recorded message is sent via telephone with information about the situation.
How do I opt-out of CodeRED alerts?
If you currently receive emergency or community notifications from CodeRED in your area but would like to stop receiving them, please follow these instructions:
- If you are registered for CodeRED, opt-out of notifications through CodeRED's portal.
- If you are not registered for CodeRED, opt-out of Public Works alerts through this form.
CodeRed Mobile Alert App
Customers can receive public safety alerts from agencies using CodeRED no matter where they are located via the CodeRED Mobile Alert app – a free public safety app for both Android and iPhone users. If customers are currently a CodeRed subscriber that has already registered their mobile phone to receive notifications from Lake County Public Works, they will continue to receive calls. However, by downloading the CodeRED Mobile Alert app, customers will receive alerts through their smartphones from anywhere in the country, including Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Alaska.
Download the free CodeRED Mobile Alert app on Android or Apple.
