Board of Health
The Board of Health’s primary responsibility is to establish those purposes, programs, and procedures which will best prevent disease and promote health among Lake County residents. The Board is charged with accomplishing this while also being responsible for the management of resources available to the Lake County Health Department.

Communicable Diseases
Staff members in the CD program verify reports of various diseases, outbreaks and conduct investigations related to reported diseases in Illinois.

Core Functions & Essential Services
Over 15 years ago, the Institute of Medicine formulated the now familiar 3 core functions of public health: assessment, policy development and assurance.

Governing Council
In addition to the Board of Health, the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center maintains a Community Health Center Governing Council and several Board of Health advisory committees, including Environmental Health, Dental, and Behavioral Health advisory committees.

Health Department Purchasing
It is the objective of the Health Department to purchase goods and services in conformance with the Illinois Compiled State Statutes and per the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center's Purchasing Policies and Procedures.

Volunteer Opportunities
The goal of the Lake County Medical Reserve Corps (LCMRC) is to increase the health care surge capacity of the county as support to the existing health care system in the event of a major emergency, flu pandemic and/or to support local public health needs.
