Schools & Child Care Centers

Settings, where children are present, have an increased risk of exposure to infectious diseases due to group learning and activities. Pediatric professionals are the primary source of information for caregivers and school staff regarding the management of infectious diseases. Guidance from various agencies can create confusion about which conditions and symptoms require a child to be excluded from school or child care. The Lake County Health Department Communicable Disease program offers guidance to our school and child care providers on these issues. Additionally, Lake County Health Department also can assist with other school health issues related to undesignated medication to prevent asthma complications, opioid overdose, and severe allergic reactions.
