Healthy Eating - Active Living

About Us

Healthy eating and active living are vital to improving our health as well as preventing and controlling chronic diseases. A healthful eating plan can decrease risk of diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers, as well as prevent individuals from being overweight or obese. Regular physical activity also reduces the risk for many diseases, helps control weight, and strengthens muscles, bones and joints. A combination of healthy eating and active living can help people achieve their optimal lifespan with the best possible quality of health in every stage of life. The goal of the program is to provide resources for preventing and reducing chronic disease through healthy eating and active living.

Lake County leaders and community partners have collaborated to develop a website and video to promote Lake County's many benefits. Watch the Lake County Life video to learn more.

Rx for Health

The simple act of walking, especially in nature, can improve your overall health, both physically and mentally. The Lake County Forest Preserves, the Lake County Health Department and NorthShore University Health System have teamed up to bring Rx for Health: Walking in Nature to the community. This program brings together naturalists and health care providers for guided walking tours of Lake County’s forest preserves.
