County Clerk

  1. Voter Registration - By Mail

    April 4, 2019 - February 18, 2020

    If you need to update your record or register for the first time, voter registration is open now and is conveniently available by mail.

    A printable mail-in registration form is available online at the Lake County Clerk’s website. The completed form must be postmarked or delivered to the Lake County Clerk’s office by close of business on February 18. Your mail-in form must be accompanied by the appropriate documentation as listed on the form.

    To register, you must be a United States citizen, 18 years of age or older by the November 3, 2020 Election Day, and meet a 30-day Lake County residency requirement. You must provide two forms of valid identification, both showing your current name and physical Lake County street address.

    Remember, 17-year olds may register and vote in this primary election if the 18th birthday is on or before the November election.

  2. Voter Registration - Online with Illinois State Board of Elections

    April 4, 2019 - March 1, 2020

    If you need to update your record or register for the first time, voter registration is open now and is conveniently available through the State Board of Elections’ Illinois Online Voter Registration Application Website until March 1.

    You must have an Illinois Driver’s License or State Identification card.

    To register, you must be a United States citizen, 18 years of age or older by the November 3, 2020 Election Day, and meet a 30-day Lake County residency requirement. You must provide two forms of valid identification, both showing your current name and physical Lake County street address.

    Remember, 17-year olds may register and vote in this primary election if the 18th birthday is on or before the November election.

  3. Voter Registration - With a Deputy Registrar

    April 4, 2019 - February 18, 2020

    If you need to update your record or register for the first time, voter registration is open now and is conveniently available at most municipal, township, and library facilities.

    The Lake County Clerk’s office, 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, will also offer voter registration weekdays from 8:30 AM to 5 PM until February 18.

    To register, you must be a United States citizen, 18 years of age or older by the November 3, 2020 Election Day, and meet a 30-day Lake County residency requirement. You must provide two forms of valid identification, both showing your current name and physical Lake County street address.

    Remember, 17-year olds may register and vote in this primary election if the 18th birthday is on or before the November election.

  4. Signature Circulation Period for 2020 March Primary Established Political Party Candidates

    September 3, 2019, 8:30 AM - December 2, 2019, 5:00 PM

    Established political party candidates who wish to appear on Lake County’s March 17, 2020 General Primary Election ballot may download courtesy petition packets from the Lake County Clerk’s candidates’ resource website or visit the clerk’s office in-person to obtain paper copies.

    Lake County offices to be nominated in the primary:

    • Circuit clerk
    • Coroner
    • Recorder
    • State’s attorney
    • County Board members – Districts 1, 2, 4, 7, 12, 13 & 16
    • North Shore Water Reclamation District trustee – Wards 1, 2 & 4
    Lake County offices to be elected in the primary:
    • Precinct committeepersons for the two major political parties
    • The City of Lake Forest alderman
    Petition packets and filing for city alderman candidates will only be available through The City of Lake Forest. NOTE THAT THE LAKE COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY ON THURS & FRI, 11/28 & 29.
