Each county treasurer collects inheritance tax locally in Illinois. Any money collected is remitted to the Illinois State Treasurer on a monthly basis. In 2011, Lake County collected $25,920,481.43 in inheritance tax.

To file Inheritance Tax:

• Complete tax return form 700
•  Forms are available at www.ag.state.il.us/publications/estatetax.html. or at the:

                                      Attorney General’s Office
                                      100 W Randolph, 13th floor
                                      Chicago, IL 6060

• Enclose check made payable to the Lake County Treasurer and mail both to:

                                      Lake County Treasurer
                                      18 N. County St.,  Rm. 102
                                      Waukegan, IL 60085

The tax will be filed on the postmark date and a receipt will be mailed directly to you.
