Metra Rail Service

Lake County is served by four Metra commuter rail lines, totaling 32 train stations in Lake County.

Union Pacific / North Line (UP-N) - travels along the lakefront from Kenosha, WI to Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago. 
North Central Service (NCS) - goes from Antioch, IL in northwest Lake County to Union Station in Chicago. 
Milwaukee District North (MD-N) - travels from Fox Lake in northwest Lake County to Union Station in Chicago.
Union Pacific / Northwest Line (UP-NW - This line goes through Lake County and services the Barrington residents in Cook and McHenry Counties. The UP-NW travels from Harvard (McHenry County) to Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago.

Pace Bus Routes in Lake County

Pace provides both fixed-routes and paratransit services in Lake County.  All of the 21 fixed-route bus routes operate on weekdays.  Twelve  bus routes operate on Saturdays and two routes offer Sunday service.  In addition, Pace operates accessible ADA complementary paratransit services within 3/4 mile throughout the fixed route service area. 

 

Route 213

Provides service from Northbrook Court to the Davis Street CTA Purple Line Station in Evanston making stops near New Trier High School, Ravinia Festival, and the Chicago Botanic Gardens. This route parallels a portion of the Metra Union Pacific North Line.

Route 234

Weekday service from Des Plaines to Wheeling. Rush hour service operates between Des Plaines Metra Station and Pace Buffalo Grove Terminal. Mid-day trips end at Strong/Milwaukee (Wheeling). Serves the following major destinations: Holy Family Hospital, Metra UP Northwest Line stations (Des Plaines, Cumberland and Mt. Prospect), Randhurst Mall, Wheeling H.S., Metra North Central Line station (Wheeling), Wheeling Municipal Complex and Wheeling Tower.

Route 272

Provides weekday and Saturday service between Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles and Westfield Shoppingtown Hawthorn in Vernon Hills via Wheeling along Milwaukee Ave. Regular stops along this route include Restaurant Row eateries and the Chicago Executive Airport. This route makes select weekday trips to businesses in Lincolnshire, Busch Parkway, Hewitt, the Corporate Woods Parkway and the Buffalo Grove Metra Station.

Route 471

Weekday and Saturday service between Highland Park and Deerfield. This route provides service to the following major destinations: the Metra/UP North Line Highland Park Station, the former Opportunity, Inc. building, Safety Center, Sherwood Forest, Metra/Milwaukee District North Line Deerfield Station, and Deerbrook Shopping Center.

Provides service between downtown Highland Park and Highland Park Metra Station. The line serves Highland Park High School, Fort Sheridan and Highland Park Metra Stations and residential areas including Highwood and Highlands. Selected trips service Parkside.

Provides service between Washington/Sheridan in Waukegan and Forrestal/Green Bay in the Great Lakes Training Center. The V.A. Hospital is served by this route. Also provides service to Abbott Labs, as well as the North Chicago, Great Lakes Naval Base and the Great Lakes Metra/ UP-N Stations.

The route primarily operates through residential areas in Waukegan and North Chicago serving Lakehurst Apts, Leo Kukla Towers, East Tower and downtown Waukegan. Round Lake Call-n-Ride (Route 590)

Provides weekday on demand service to communities in the Round Lake area bounded by Monaville Rd, Cedar Lake Rd., Railroad Ave., Belvidere Rd., US-45, Washington St. and IL-83. Timed transfers occur at the College of Lake County CLC. Reservations can be made for the Round Lake Area Call-n-Ride by calling 1-847-847-9169 on weekdays between 6:00am and 6:15pm.
