The Lake County’s Year 2020 Transportation Priority Plan (2020 TPP), adopted by the County Board on June 11, 2002, identified the need to improve transit and bicycle options in the County to better serve residents today and in the future. In addition, one of the goals of the Lake County 2011 Strategic Plan is to reduce congestion and improve transportation systems by promoting movement through an integrated network of road, rail, public transit, and non-motorized modes of travel. Presently, Lake County lacks a comprehensive and centralized transit informational center that allows any County residents to learn about existing transportation services within the County borders.
The “Transit and Paratransit Services in Lake County” webpage has been established to inform Lake County residents of the various existing modes of transportation options within County borders provided by Metra, Pace, taxis, nonprofit services, and human service agencies. The information in this website will offer a comprehensive understanding of where these transit services are located, which community or communities they serve and how these modes of transportation connect with one another.
The impetus of such a website comes as a request from the Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee (LCCTSC), whose vision is to develop the first borderless paratransit system in Lake County. Although, Lake County does not provide transportation services to its residents, the County Board does provide Technical Support to LCCTSC and the “Transit and Paratransit Services in Lake County” website link from the Lake County Division of Transportation is intended to be a service to the LCCTSC and all Lake County residents.
