Your group assigns a representative to work with the Lake County Division of Transportation's Adopt A Highway Program Coordinator.
The program coordinator will help your group select an available section of county highway to adopt.
Your group agrees to pick up litter at least twice a year for a minimum of two years.
Pickup dates are arranged in advance with the Lake County Division of Transportation.
The Division of Transportation:
Erects a highway sign to recognize your group's efforts,
Provides high-visibility safety vests and a safety training DVD,
Removes filled bags and heavy or hazardous items from the roadside - groups are encouraged to recycle materials for their own benefit.
Participants must be at least 10 years old.
Participants under 18 years old must have adequate adult supervision.
Signups are processed twice yearly - spring applications are accepted until the last Friday of January and are effective April 1; fall applications are accepted until the last Friday of August and are effective November 1.
