Rainfall Data Analysis

Rain Data Intervals
The SMC rain gauge data is collected in 5-minute intervals but displayed in 1-hour intervals on our website with user-friendly graphs and tables. Rainfall data is useful to design engineers, permitting agencies and developers who use typical rain event data to calculate stormwater detention for a site and the need for erosion control inspections. In addition, the data is frequently viewed by the general public to monitor rainfall for a specific area.

Rainfall Analysis
Storm events which produce significant rainfall are often documented and analyzed to determine the size of the storm event. SMC collects rainfall information and correlates rain data with potential flood events so communities impacted can be notified and prepared for potential flooding.

For more information on rain gauge data analysis, please email Bob Gardiner or call 847.377.7704.
