Municipal Best Management Practices

Many of the activities and services a munipality provides has a direct effect on the watershed and its natural resources. Vehicle maintenance and fueling, salt for deicing, and parking lot and street cleaning are but a few of the services offered by local municipalities and county governments. Improper maintenance of these areas can result in non-point source pollution flowing into nearby streams, lakes and rivers.

The following BMPs can be integrated before, during and after development of municipal facilities. These practices not only help the environment, but in many cases they also save time and money.
