Filtration is the process of removing suspended solids from water. Many pollutants are attached to these solids. Filtration systems are typically two-chambered stormwater management practices where sediment settles out in the first chamber (called primary filtration) and then the water is filtered via some sort of media in the second chamber (called secondary or final filtration).
There are different types water quality filters including a media filter, underground filter and hydrodynamic separators. Each have their own designs but all are primarily used to remove pollutants and sediment from runoff.
