HISTORY

The Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center was created as the result of a child sexual abuse task force held in 1985.  Initiated by the State’s Attorney of Lake County, the task force addressed the rapid rise in child abuse reports.  The findings of the task force mandated a new, multi-disciplinary approach for responding to reports of child abuse.

The Center opened in 1987.  Its operation is a cooperative effort between the Illinois Department of Children Family Services, local law enforcement and the Office of the State’s Attorney.

Additionally, the Center collaborates with area law enforcement agencies.  The Center’s executive director, investigators, social worker(s), and support staff carry out the mission of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
