Michael J. Waller is the Lake County State's Attorney.  He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1970 and his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Illinois in 1973, graduating with honors as a member of the Order of the Coif.

Past Work Experience

Mr. Waller served as a Lake County Assistant State's Attorney from 1973 to 1979.  From 1979 to 1986, he was in the private practice of law in Waukegan.  In 1986 he returned to the Lake County State's Attorneys Office as Chief Deputy.  Mr. Waller was appointed State's Attorney of Lake County in 1990.  He was elected State's Attorney in 1992, re-elected in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008.

Professional Affiliations
Mr. Waller is the President of NICASA as well as past President of the Illinois States' Attorneys Association.  Mr. Waller is also a member of the Lake County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the National District Attorneys Association.  He is an appointed member of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, having served since 1991 and an appointed member of former Governor Ryan's Commission on Capital Punishment.

Personal and Other Information
Mr. Waller resides in Waukegan with his wife, retired Circuit Court Judge Jane.   Mr. Waller has two sons, Patrick and John.  Mr. Waller is also a grandfather to Patrick Michael.
