Route 173 Corridor Planning Council
The Rt. 173 Corridor Council was established in early 2004 by a memorandum of understanding between Lake County and the municipalities of Antioch, Old Mill Creek, Wadsworth, and Zion.  Although it intends to continue to meet with neighboring communities, the Village of Antioch has formally withdrawn from the Council.

The Rt. 173 Corridor Council is comprised of the mayors and presidents of the participating municipalities and two members of the Lake County Board.  The Council’s purpose is to coordinate land use, zoning, development, and infrastructure improvements in the area centered on Rt. 173 from Rt. 45 on the west to Green Bay Road on the east.  The Rt. 173 Corridor Council is an advisory organization.  All recommendations developed by the Council must be approved by the municipal and county boards.

The Corridor Council commissioned an economic feasibility study and developed an intergovernmental agreement guiding land use and development at the Rt.173/I-94 Interchange. This agreement was adopted by the Village of Old Mill Creek, the Village of Wadsworth, and Lake County. The county and villages amended their comprehensive plans and zoning ordinances to implement the agreement.

The Rt. 173/I-94 Intergovernmental Agreement has received regional and national recognition. It was awarded the 2007 Development Award from the DePaul University Chaddick Institute and a 2007 Sustainable Development Award from the National Association of Counties.
