IN AN EMERGENCY DIAL 911

Information about ongoing public safety emergencies and events can be found on the County's Alerts page.

Community Safety and Crime Prevention

TheLake County Sheriff’s Office has several programs that help keep our community safe:

  • Neighborhood Watch
Learn how to make your home less of a target for burglaries and other criminal activity.

  • Child Fingerprinting
Fingerprinting of children over the age of three years is conducted upon request at the Sheriff’s Administrative Office, the annual Lake County Fair, school functions, community gatherings, corporate safety days and civic organizations.

  • Crime Stoppers
To report information about a felony crime or fugitive, call Crime Stoppers at 847.662.2222. Cash rewards up to $1,000 are available. We want your information, not your name!

  • R.U.O.K.
“Are You OK?” is a computer-based telephone system that telephones citizens who are homebound and living alone. The computer calls them daily and if after making six calls, there is no contact, an alarm sounds and the computer advises the clerk to call for help.

  • D.U.I. Awareness
High school and junior college students can learn about the dangers of driving under the influence and how the effects of consuming alcoholic beverages can impair a person’s judgment.

More information about these programs, crime statistics, and lists of sex offenders, most wanted and gang members can be found on the Sheriff’s Office website or by calling the Sheriff's Community Services Division at 847.377.4350.

Domestic Violence Resources

Domestic Violence is a crime that can result in serious, physical injury and even death. If you are being abused at home... you are not alone.

Please call 911 if you are in immediate danger.

More information and additional resources are available on the State's Attorney's website.

Elderly Abuse

Women over the age of 55, who are abused are more invisible than the younger battered woman because of ageism and cultural norms of their generation. Due to health problems and transportation, the older woman can be more isolated and risk financial difficulties, even homelessness, if she leaves her husband.

More information is available on the State's Attorney's website.
