Health Education and Community Nutrition 
 

Community Dietitian Toby Smithson, Registered Dietitian and Spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association

Health programs are provided on a variety of health topics at no cost to Lake County residents of all ages at various community settings.  Individual dietary counseling and group presentations are also provided at no cost to Lake County residents by a registered dietitian.

Is Your Diet a Fad Diet?

Nutrition Education

Nutrition education and counseling is provided by a registered, licensed dietitian.  Staff is available for one-on-one counseling to individuals with a doctor’s order.  Group presentations, health fair displays, and in-services to schools, worksites and community groups are also available. 

Education topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Intuitive eating
  • Keeping a health heart
  • Managing diabetes
  • Budgeting for good nutrition
  • How to lower the fat in your diet
  • Smart snacking
  • How to read food labels

Presentations may include specially designed games, contests, demonstrations, brochures and posters, as well as discussions.

For more information, please call the program at 847.377.8114.   Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, though staff is available for programs on evenings and weekends.

Health Education

Staff presents health education programs to children, adolescents and adults in a wide variety of settings such as health fairs, schools, summer camps, worksites, preschools, community and senior centers. 

Health education topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Stress management
  • Personal hygiene
  • Parenting skills
  • Violence and abuse prevention
  • Girls in sports
  • Child safety
  • Making healthy lifestyle choices

Presentations may include specially designed games, contests, demonstrations, brochures and posters, as well as discussions.  Individualized referral to self-help groups and community resources is also provided.
