In addition, time is provided for those in attendance to share their personal experiences in caring for people with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Caregiver Initiatives
Caregivers are a diverse group of people who look after a family member, friend, neighbor or someone they care about either on a regular, frequent basis or more sporadically as the need arises. Some caregivers support others long distance. Caregivers often care for more than one person. For instance, aging parents, a spouse, and children or grandchildren. Family caregivers provide 70-80 percent of care in the home. They often experience failing physical and emotional health. A nurse/gerontologist is available for phone consultation or individual meetings with caregivers and families.
Long Term Care Consultation

This program provides consultation and education to long-term care facilities, hospitals, adult day care facilities, nursing homes, assisted living and supportive living facilities. Consultation is available on community health issues, senior quality of life, healthy aging and physical or emotional stress associated with retirement and aging.
These services are available at no charge to Lake County residents and health related organizations. Information is also available on culture change in long-term care facilities and fostering person directed care, with a focus on changing how elders are cared for in these facilities.
