Watch our Focus on Fitness Video Series

Obesity Prevention ForumOn January 19th, 2011, the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center and the Lake County Regional Office of Education co-sponsored the Lake County Community Forum on Obesity Prevention. The planning and facilitation of the forum was coordinated by the LCHD Population Health Services’ Obesity Prevention Team. Over 150 participants from all around Lake County and beyond came together to discuss the urgency of this topic and the vitality of making strong multi-sector efforts at collaboration to be able to address this crisis, which is of epidemic proportions.

As one of the fruits of the forum, this online resource center has been established, as a resource to help raise awareness of needs, resources, and opportunities for collaboration, throughout the county and beyond.

What is the Online Resource Center?

This website is intended to be a communication tool which can be used to share information between various community partners throughout Lake County and beyond. Resources that have been shared will be reviewed and posted for everyone to benefit from. The website is just one example of the many ways that we need to continue to think creatively in approaching multi-sector collaboration to appropriately address the multi-faceted challenges of obesity.

Jon AshworthIt is our desire that community partners from various sectors will identify and pursue collaborative ventures with each other, in order to multiply the impact and success of their efforts to serve and empower the people of Lake County to see significant improvement in their fitness, the health of their nutrition, the health of their weight, and the health of their lives overall.

Being fit and living at a healthy weight are worthy goals for everyone of every age.  It is never too late to see positive health outcomes in your life. On a personal level, making good, healthy, informed decisions about your nutrition and physical activity are an important part of being fit and living at a healthy weight. On a community level, assuring the accessibility of healthy choices and support to implement these choices are equally important.

In order to assure that these personal and community actions are realized in Lake County, it will take county-wide, multi-sector, collaborative efforts across geographical boundaries and boundaries of service area.

As more community partners begin using the resource center, we anticipate that new and more innovative ways of utilizing the website will be discovered. You can begin by taking a look at some of the resources shared at the January 19th, 2011 Community Forum. Or you can dive right into other resources that are of specific interest to you.
