Petition packets are provided by the Lake County Clerk’s office as a courtesy to prospective candidates. Circulation periods and filing information, as well as suggested forms, are also available on the Illinois State Board of Elections website at www.elections.il.gov. The petition packets provided by the Lake County Clerk are available in PDF fill-in documents.
New Political Party and Independent petition packets will be available in the Lake County Clerk’s office and on the website beginning March 12, 2010.

Condensed Candidate's Guide for 2010
The Lake County Clerk and staff cannot provide a review of nominating papers or legal opinions regarding petition papers. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to consult competent legal counsel regarding qualifications to seek office, preparation of petition papers, circulator requirements, signature requirements, etc. After petition papers have been filed with the County Clerk, petition pages cannot be amended or added. A receipt for filing required Statements of Economic Interests can be added until 5 p.m. on the last day to file.
A candidate’s nominating papers are subject to legal challenge by qualified objectors when forms are incomplete or improperly completed. The Lake County Electoral Board is chaired by the County Clerk and convenes to hear objections filed with the County Clerk’s office. Copies of nominating paper filed with the County Clerk are available for purchase and appointments for reviewing registration for signers of petitions can be made with the Voter Registration Department at 847-377-2410.
