Funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) - Community Planning and Development Office is awarded annually to Lake County on the basis of the five-year consolidated funding plan. The plan is consolidated across several types of HUD grants: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG). According to the “Purpose” section of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR): Title 24 U.S. Housing & Urban Development; Part 91 Consolidated Submissions.
The overall goal of the community planning and development programs described here is to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The primary means towards this end is to extend and strengthen partnerships among all levels of government and the private sector, including for-profit and non-profit organizations, in the production and operation of affordable housing.
An important part of the process of developing the Consolidated Plan is citizen participation and input. All interested parties, including citizens, local officials and agency representatives are invited and urged to attend these Public Hearings. Persons in need of special arrangements (translator, specific disabilities, etc.) should contact staff at least three (3) days prior to the meeting date at 847.377.2150.
