On February 9, 2019, at approximately 7:50PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of North Delany Road, just south of Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth, for a traffic crash with entrapment. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found two vehicles with major damage.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 17-year-old female of Zion, was traveling northbound on Delany Road. A 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, driven by a 55-year-old male of Beach Park was traveling southbound on Delany Road. Based on preliminary information at this time, it appears the driver of the Hyundai crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes of traffic. The Chrysler and Hyundai struck head-on in the southbound lanes.
The driver of the Chrysler was transported to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. The driver of the Hyundai was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries. There was a 32-year-old male passenger in the Chrysler who was transported to Vista East Hospital with serious injuries.
A small amount of debris from a Kia Spectra was also found at the scene. The Kia Spectra was located a short distance away at a gas station near Delany Road and York House Road. Crash investigators are working to determine if the Kia was involved in the initial crash or struck debris from the initial crash.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled tomorrow afternoon for the driver of the Chrysler.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
