The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has funded the administration of the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) biennially since 1990. The IYS is a self-report survey administered in school settings and is designed to gather information about a variety of health and social indicators including substance use patterns and attitudes of Illinois youth.
The survey helps educators, legislators, parents and prevention workers understand current adolescent behaviors and attitudes toward alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, in order to execute effective, evidence-based community interventions. Prevention Programming works with schools and communities in Lake County to advocate for their participation in the survey. After the survey is completed, our staff provides guidance and assistance to help schools use the information most effectively.
